Sudanese walk past tents at a displacement camp.
Sudanese refugees who escaped from el-Fasher traverse the tent-lined pathways at al-Afad camp for displaced persons in northern Sudan's town of al-Dabba. The conflict between Sudan's army and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF), which began in April 2023, has killed tens of thousands and forced nearly 12 million people from their homes. Last month, the paramilitary group captured el-Fasher, ending a brutal 18-month siege for this strategic center in western Sudan's Darfur region - a campaign characterised by documented mass killings and sexual violence.
