Israeli army raids, cordons off West Bank town

The Israeli military has raided Bayt Ur at-Tahta in the central West Bank after reports that an Israeli civilian was lightly injured by glass fragments as stone throwers targeted Israeli vehicles on Route 443.

In a statement, the army said it had cordoned off the town as it searched for those responsible.

The International Court of Justice (ICJ) ruled in 2024 that Israel’s continued presence in the occupied Palestinian territory is unlawful and should come to an end “as rapidly as possible”.

Some in Israel question its influence over US as Iran war decision nears

    By Simon Speakman Cordall

As the prospect of a conflict between the US and Iran looms, analysts within Israel have questioned the country’s capacity to determine the outcome of a confrontation in a region that, just months ago, it had regarded itself as on the brink of dominating.

“The [Israeli] opposition are accusing Netanyahu of giving in to Trump and ending the war on Gaza too soon,” said Israeli political analyst Ori Goldberg.

“[Israel is] being hounded out of Lebanon, [its] freedom to operate within Syria has been halted. All that’s left to [Israel] is the freedom to kill Palestinians, and with Qatar, Turkiye and Egypt now being involved in Gaza, over Israel’s objection, it won’t be allowed to do that for much longer.”

US Muslim advocates demand Trump ‘immediately restrain Israel’

American Muslims for Palestine (AMP) has said Israel’s deadly attacks on Gaza and restrictions at the Rafah crossing “should trigger accountability and the withholding of military aid” by the US government.

“Instead of doing that, the United States approved yet another ($6.7bn) weapons deal for Israel just last week, once again making clear how little Palestinian life is valued by this administration,” the group said in a statement.

It urged Trump to enforce “a real ceasefire” in the bombarded Palestinian enclave; lift Israel’s continued blockade of Gaza and withhold US military aid to its top ally.

“Anything less is continued US complicity and a deliberate choice to enable ongoing atrocities.”

Palestine Red Crescent Society condemns Israeli killing of medic in Gaza as war crime

The Palestine Red Crescent Society (PRCS) says killed Gaza emergency responder Hussein Hasan Hussein al-Sumairy was “deliberately targeted” by the Israeli military today.

In a statement, PRCS denounced al-Sumairy’s killing as a war crime under international law.

“This crime is part of [Israel’s] systematic policy of continuing to undermine the health and emergency [response] system in the Gaza Strip” since the Israeli bombardment began in October 2023, the agency said.

It called on the international community to take action to protect Palestinian healthcare workers and emergency responders, stressing that inaction gives Israel a greenlight to “continue violating international law and targeting humanitarian personnel”.

WFP welcomes France’s contribution of food aid for Gaza children

The UN’s World Food Programme (WFP) says about 400 tonnes of specialised nutritional supplements, intended to support more than 40,000 children under five months old, has arrived in the Egyptian city of Port Said.

“The cargo has now been handed over to WFP for onward distribution” in Gaza, the agency said.

“France remains fully committed to full, safe and unhindered humanitarian access throughout the Gaza Strip, in accordance with international humanitarian law,” the French ambassador to Egypt, Eric Chevallier, said in a statement shared by the WFP.

Despite an increase in the amount of humanitarian aid getting into Gaza in recent months, the UN and humanitarian groups working in the territory say Israeli restrictions continue to prevent adequate supplies from reaching Palestinians in need.

The UN has repeatedly called on Israel to allow the free flow of critical aid, including food and shelter supplies, into Gaza.

WFP welcomes a vital contribution from #France to support life-saving assistance in the #Gaza Strip.

Israeli foreign ministry hails ‘strong friendship’ with US, Latin America

Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Saar has hosted Latin American foreign ministers and senior US administration officials at the home of the Israeli ambassador in Washington, amid what he said was a “pro-Western shift taking place in countries across the continent”.

“The strong friendship between Israel and the United States, Argentina, Paraguay, and Ecuador has grown significantly over the past year, and I’m confident it will continue to grow even stronger,” he said on X.

While key Israeli allies have been taking some distance due to Israel’s genocidal war on Gaza and have formally recognised a Palestinian state, several Latin American countries have recently elected conservative leaders friendly to Israel.

US Congressman Mario Diaz-Balart, who was part of the delegation that met Saar, said on X that their growing alliance was “strengthening the cause of freedom and advancing our shared security and democratic values”.

    Analysis

Will Trump keep attention on Gaza?

Aaron David Miller, a senior fellow at the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace specialised in US foreign policy, has told Al Jazeera that whether the Trump administration will keep its attention on Gaza remains an open question amid other global and domestic priorities.

The US president has put forward a 20-point Gaza plan, which included October’s “ceasefire” between Israel and Hamas and a so-called “Board of Peace” to coordinate on issues such as future governance and reconstruction of the enclave.

But in recent weeks, Trump also has raised the prospect of US military strikes against Iran, been heavily involved in diplomatic efforts to end the Russia-Ukraine war and faced mounting criticism at home for a sprawling anti-immigration crackdown, Miller noted.

“If [the US ends] up in a major confrontation with Iran … that’s going to be a huge distraction,” he told Al Jazeera. “So, Gaza here – I’m afraid to say, tragically and sadly, primarily for two million Palestinians – is going to become an afterthought.”

Satellite images show Israeli forces bulldozed cemetery in Gaza City: Report

Israeli forces have bulldozed part of a cemetery in the Tuffah neighbourhood of Gaza City, satellite imagery has revealed, churning up soil in an area whose size suggests the use of heavy equipment.

British newspaper The Guardian revealed the systematic destruction of the cemetery, which it said contained the remains of dozens of British and Australian and other allied soldiers killed in the first and second world wars.

Israeli forces are known to have damaged or destroyed graves across the Gaza Strip, according to multiple reports from the Palestinian Ministry of Awqaf and Religious Affairs. Last month, the al-Batsh cemetery in Gaza City was excavated as the army recovered the last captive’s body.

WATCH: Israeli group exposes systematic torture of Palestinian prisoners

A report by Israeli human rights groups B’Tselem has revealed the inhumane treatment Palestinians face in Israeli prisons.

At least 84 Palestinians have died in Israeli detention centres since Israel’s genocidal war on Gaza began in October 2023, and Israel has yet to hand over 80 of the bodies.

Palestinian injured in Israeli settler attack near Ramallah

A Palestinian resident of Burqa, near Ramallah in the occupied West Bank, has been injured after Israeli settlers stormed the village, according to the Wafa news agency.

Wafa said the settlers tried to steal the villager’s sheep and attacked him, “inflicting bruises across his body”.

The incident comes amid a wave of intensified Israeli settler and military violence against Palestinians across the West Bank in the shadow of the war on Gaza.

According to the UN, more than 1,000 Palestinians – nearly a quarter of them children – have been killed in Israeli attacks on the West Bank since October 2023.

“Attacks by Israeli settlers continue unabated, with Palestinian communities being constantly intimidated, uprooted and their livelihoods ruined. Impunity reigns,” the head of the UN agency for Palestinian refugees, Philippe Lazzarini, said this week.
