This blog is now closed, thanks for joining us. These were the updates on the Ghana vs Uruguay World Cup 2022 match on Friday, December 2.

  • Ghana XI: Ati Zigi, Alidu, Daniel Amartey, Salisu, Rahman, Partey, Abdul Samed Kyereh, (72′), Kudus (Fatawu, 90+) Jordan Ayew (Sulemana, 46′), Andre Ayew (Bukari, 46′), Williams (Semenyo, 72′).
  • Uruguay XI: Rochet, Varela, Gimenez, Coates, Olivera, Pellistri (de la Cruz, 66′), Valverde, Bentancur (Vecino, 34′), de Arrascaeta (Gomez, 81′), Nunez (Canobbio, 80′), Suarez (Cavani, 66′).
  • The Group H decider sees Ghana take on Uruguay to join Portugal in advancing from this group.
  • Ghana’s win over South Korea means that a draw would be enough for them unless the Koreans defeat Portugal by a multiple-goal margin in the other match.
  • Uruguay will also be keeping an eye on that game because even if they win, they will need to do so by a greater margin than South Korea’s to advance.

    That’s it from us

We’re finishing up our coverage of that Group H encounter, with our attention now turning to Cameroon vs Brazil and Serbia vs Switzerland. If they’re half as interesting as this last game, we’re in for a good evening.

    Goodbye for now.

Fans of both teams, look away now

This won’t make easy reading if you’re Ghanaian or Uruguayan, but here’s our match report after an eventful game at the Al Janoub Stadium.

Third time unlucky in this case

3 – Giorgian de Arrascaeta is the third Uruguayan to score two goals in the first-half of a World Cup match, after Juan Peregrino Anselmo vs Yugoslavia in 1930 and Oscar Miguez vs Bolivia in 1950. Uruguay won the World Cup at both editions. Charm. pic.twitter.com/6cwLGmL06W

    Suarez in tears

He had his shirt over his head when he heard the news that South Korea had gone ahead, and looks disconsolate as he wanders around the pitch. At 35, this is almost certainly his last shot at lifting that golden trophy, and he knows it.

    Uruguay players heartbroken

They are devastated; on the floor. They gave everything but it wasn’t to be. They are heading home.

    Full-time

Uruguay are out of this World Cup after failing to score enough goals in this win. Their players are remonstrating with the referee and chasing him down the tunnel, but it matters little now.

Neither side did enough in this game to progress, with South Korea springing another surprise by beating Portugal 2-1. What a World Cup.

    Uruguay fans are nervous

    By Hamza Mohamed

Uruguay players know the score in the other match. They are taking risks as they push for the third goal.

Their fans are on the edge, not cheering as loudly as before. The bench is also up on their feet and almost out of the technical area.

Both Ghana and Uruguay will crash out of the World Cup if the score remains the same.
