‘Losing the final against your eternal rival is never pleasant’
Real Madrid goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois spoke with Movistar following the match.
“In the second half, we deserved to win. We could have perfectly won the match. In the first half, perhaps we were too closed up.
“We trust that Vinicius Junior will have games like this. He’s been a nightmare for the Barcelona players.
“Losing the final against your eternal rival is never pleasant at all. Now it’s time to work for the Copa del Rey and La Liga [titles].
“The conditions weren’t favourable for us today. The past few months have been a period when things didn’t go as they should have. We could have easily won the match.”
“The details were against us. Sometimes, it doesn’t turn out the way it should. We’ve shown that we’re a team that’s alive.” “We’ve had chances and it hasn’t wanted to go in. A bit unfair.
“We fully trust Vinicius Junior. We know he’s capable of doing that. He’s a boy with a lot of talent and quality.” “His goal? It’s an absolute golazo. The whole match, he’s been a nightmare for them. We haven’t made the most of it as much as we could.”

‘Winning the Super Cup gives us a lot of motivation’
Barcelona midfielder Pedri provides his views on the match with Movistar:
“They’ve given me the award for best assist. I’ve never seen it before.
“Vinicius Junior scored an absolute golazo. We needed to stop him a bit earlier. We got our goal, and then, theirs.
“My assist today? [Robert] Lewandowski also scored that goal very well. He went for it. I’m happy.
“The team played very well today. We were comfortable and knew how to control the match.
“Real Madrid were comfortable when they sit back and play on the counterattack. They have the players to do that, but we didn’t expect such a defensive system with a low block.
“In the end, we managed to control the game in the second half, and Raphinha’s goal gave us the victory.
“Hopefully, it won’t be the last title of the season. We’re in great form. Winning the Super Cup gives us a lot of motivation.”

No guard of honour for Barcelona
As has been the tradition after the Supercopa final, the losing team usually provides a guard of honour for the winning team.
However, it appears that Real Madrid did not provide this custom to Barcelona. It provides a rather sour note to what was a splendid exhibition of world-class football.

‘We were very close to equalising at the end’
Real Madrid boss Xabi Alonso spoke with Movistar after the match.
“Mixed feelings: We are proud for having competed, and disappointed for losing in a hard-fought final.
“The team showed great attitude and commitment, but we lacked the precision to reach penalties. It was a very close game.
“We were so close to tying it, even at the very end. Vini[cius Junior] had a great performance. He was so dangerous.
“The team competed and showed up. I want to congratulate Barcelona.
The players’ behaviour was so good. We knew there would be moments where we wouldn’t have the ball and we’d have to stay compact. We defended well in the first 30 minutes, before things got a bit crazy towards the end of the first half.
“When we conceded the third goal, I was 100 percent convinced we’d have chances to tie it. And we [almost] did, but the ball just didn’t go in.
“We played Kylian [Mbappe] in the last minutes because we wanted to create more danger towards the end. That was the plan even before the game. He wasn’t ready to start.
It was an even match. We were very close to equalising at the end.
“We have to turn this around, recover our players, and forget about the Super Cup already, because there’s still a lot of the season left.”
“The Supercopa is the least important competition we have.”

‘Whenever we beat Real Madrid, it’s a big deal’
Robert Lewandowski, who scored Barcelona’s second goal, shared his thoughts with the host broadcaster.
“Whenever we beat Real Madrid, it’s a big deal,” he said.
“Sometimes, we need more patience, but against Real Madrid, you have to be at 100 percent. We won as a team.
“They played in a low block. We had to be patient, from one side to the other. The most important thing is that we have another title.”

Barcelona edge 5-goal cup final thriller
After outplaying Real Madrid for large parts of the first half, it looked like Barcelona were well on course for another Supercopa title.
Raphinha’s 36th-minute goal thrust them into the lead, but a manic stoppage-time period resulted in three more goals being scored, leaving the match precariously balanced at 2-2.
Madrid grew in confidence in the second half, but Raphinha’s deflected goal in the 73rd minute suddenly had them in a position where they had to equalise or bust.
Despite Frenkie de Jong’s send-off at the cusp of stoppage time, and some dangerous Madrid advances in the dying minutes, the Barcelona defence were able to hold on to the dear end.
